Between 20th and 22nd November 2024, multiple "unidentified aerial vehicles", up to 20 at a time, were observed over and around Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, and RAF Feltwell in Norfolk [1][2].
The US Air Force (USAF) were quoted as saying “the number of UASs fluctuated and they ranged in size/configuration,” while refusing to comment on whether F-15E Strike Eagles were dispatched to chase them [3], although aircraft spotters and flight tracking software appear to have confirmed this [4]. The UK assigned 60 troops to assist the USAF with the investigation [5].
Residents at the time described seeing dark grey, triangle shaped objects, orange balls and a heightened military presence, with some USAF personnel conducting door-to-door inquiries asking what the residents had seen [6].
At the time, RAF Lakenheath was being prepared for the return of US nuclear weapons [7], and the bombs were installed in Lakenheath on 17th July, 2025 [8].
